Important message concerning graduation during the summer

May 31, 2018

If you are planning to finish your last study component in July or August, you should read this announcement very carefully! The procedure in the summer is slightly different than normal.

Your graduation date is the last working day of the month in which you finish the last component of your MSc. If you like, you can have a formal graduation ceremony one or two months after that. In the summer, the ceremony dates are 21 August and 17 and 18 September (no ceremony in July). If you plan to graduate this summer, you have to comply with these important rules:

  • You should contact the Graduate School Office BEFORE June 15 if you expect to finalise your last study component in July and wish to have a graduation ceremony on August 21.
  • You should contact the Graduate School Office BEFORE July 1 if you expect to finalise your last study component in August and wish to have a graduation ceremony on September 17 or September 18.
  • Due to the large number of graduations expected for September, two graduation dates are scheduled. The schedule in principle will be based on a first-come-first-serve basis, but is also dependent on the availability of the committee members.
  • If you are too late with informing the Graduate School Office conform the deadlines given above, you will NOT be scheduled for a formal graduation ceremony.

Check the details of the normal graduation procedure here, including who to contact with which documents before the deadlines stated above.

Please also start planning your Thesis Talk or colloquium well in advance! Many staff members are on holiday or go to conferences during the summer, so it may be more difficult to find a suitable date. Email msc-coordinator@lic.leidenuniv.nl for the procedures and to reserve a date.
