Science Methodology – Understanding the Principles of Scientific Research
A course for students in natural sciences
During the BSc and MSc education students learn lots of scientific facts, but do they know how science works? In this course the basic principles of the methodology used in the natural sciences are taught. The aim is to let the student contemplate concepts like ‘truth’, ‘experiments’, ‘models’, ‘confirmation/falsification’ and make the student aware of the
limitations of the ability to make objective observations.
During the LIC Master's opening event on September 3rd "Best student" prizes were awarded to three exceptional students: "doorstromer" Annet Blom (following both a Chemistry and LST programme), and "externe instromers" Sara Ali (Chemistry) and Silvia Hoeboer (LST).
The masterplanner is now available for students that want to create a programme on-line. An account is required and instructions can be found here.
The planner should work for students that started in the study year 2010-2011 or later. You can send feedback using the "side panel" Feedback.
The schedule of the MSc Chemistry and MSc Life Science & Technology has been updated.
The new course "Science Methodology" has been included.

A ‘Masterday’ has been organised for Life Science and Technology and Chemistry Master students on Tuesday 8 May. This day aims to address the questions on every Master student’s mind: “what should I do after my Master? A PhD? Or not? What are the possibilities?” A number of speakers from the academic and business sectors will outline the benefits and drawbacks of the paths they themselves have followed , and thereby provide insight into the options available. A discussion will follow, giving you the opportunity to ask the speakers further questions.
